👶🍼The White House Plan to Encourage Married Couples Make More Babies

If your head is spinning trying to keep up, you’re not alone.

What’s happening:

The White House has been brainstorming ideas around ways to persuade Americans to get married and have more kids in response to a staggering decline in fertility, “at a record low” according to the CDC.

The Trump administration has not been quiet about their cuts to government spending and programming around women’s health, DEI and reportedly even research that so much as includes the word “women.”

What they’re proposing so far:

Firstly, a child tax credit of $5,000 or a “baby bonus” is on the proposal and would only apply to married couples. Another shared with aides would reserve 30 percent of scholarships for the Fulbright program, the prestigious, government-backed international fellowship, for applicants who are married or have children.

A pro-natalist activist, Simone Collins (currently campaigning to be a State Representative- not a current government employee), has even proposed a National Medal of Honor for mothers with over six children, among other things…

Encouraging family growth while cutting funding and access to maternal healthcare and education…what in the Handmaid’s Tale is going on here?

As this Axios article says, “Incentivizing women to have more children and making it safer is not the same thing.”

Stay Abreast take: with all of the budget cuts around science and research, we’re glad to see a study like this moving forward.

  • A new urinary device helps hospitalized women pee with more dignity. Many women who are forced to sit or lie down for long periods in hospital struggle to urinate without pain and movement. Staff at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Swindon started adapting the disposable male urinal bottle for women to use, lessening the need for catheters and making life more dignified and pain-free in hospital.

  • Stay Abreast take: this is just one case of government layoffs impacting a particular study. We’re wondering what other studies are being paused or impacted by layoffs?

We’re starting a new series where we tap incredible experts to help us debunk common myths. Today, we’re starting with Sue Williams and hormonal myths!

WOMEN’S HORMONAL HEALTH MYTH: As we age, our hormones will naturally become imbalanced.

FACT: Hormonal chaos isn’t just a normal part of aging—it’s a sign that your liver and detox pathways are overwhelmed. Women regularly receive messages—from the media and even from their health practitioners—to expect fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, hot flashes, painful periods, or weight gain as they get older.

But here’s what most don’t realize: Your liver plays a huge role in hormone balance—and when it's sluggish or congested, your hormones can’t stay in check.

Here’s why: Your liver filters out and breaks down excess hormones like estrogen, along with toxins from food, products, and the environment. If this system gets overwhelmed, those hormones (and toxins) don’t get fully processed—they recirculate in the body, leading to symptoms of estrogen dominance, PMS, thyroid imbalance, and more.

Think of your liver like your body’s hormonal traffic controller. When it’s working efficiently, hormones are produced, used, and cleared in rhythm. But when the liver gets overwhelmed, that rhythm gets disrupted—and the whole endocrine system takes a hit. We live in a toxic world and while many toxic exposures are beyond our control, one of the biggest hidden sources of toxicity might surprise you: your daily personal care routine. On average, women apply 168 different chemicals to their bodies every single day —many of which contain endocrine disruptors that mimic or block hormones. These include parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, and other hormone-hijacking ingredients.

Add to that the burden of alcohol, pesticides, mold exposure, chronic stress, and poor nutrition, and your liver can’t keep up. Instead of breaking down and clearing out excess estrogen, they get recirculated in the body—fueling everything from PMS to fatigue to thyroid issues and stubborn weight gain. Your hormones aren’t the problem. Your toxic load is.

Start by making small but powerful shifts:

  • Reduce your exposure to endocrine-disrupting synthetic scents by ditching perfume, air fresheners, scented candles, and dryer sheets.

  • Swap out conventional beauty and personal care products for non-toxic alternatives.

  • Eat more high-fiber foods like lentils, beans, leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, raw nuts and seeds.

Fiber binds to toxins and excess estrogen for easy elimination. As a certified detox specialist, I help women uncover and release the toxic burden that’s blocking their body’s ability to heal, so they can feel like themselves again.
